Clock in clock out calculator
Sum up to six clock-in and clock-out rows with unpaid breaks and overnight support.
What this calculator covers
Use this calculator when you want a shift-by-shift worked-hours total using clock-in and clock-out language instead of generic start and end times.
Each row is validated independently before the totals are combined, which makes overnight shifts and unpaid break deductions easier to audit.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I enter an overnight shift that crosses midnight?
- Enter the clock-in time as normal (for example, 22:00) and the clock-out time in the following morning (for example, 06:00). When the clock-out is earlier than the clock-in, the calculator automatically treats that row as an overnight shift and adds 24 hours before computing the duration.
- Can I leave some rows blank if I only worked one or two shifts?
- Yes. Rows with both clock-in and clock-out left empty are ignored. Only rows that have both times filled in contribute to the worked total.
- How are unpaid breaks handled?
- Each row has its own unpaid break field in minutes. The break is subtracted from that row's gross duration before the rows are summed, so the final total reflects only paid working time.
- Is the result shown in hours and minutes or decimal hours?
- Both. The primary result displays in hours and minutes format (for example, 7h 30m), and the walkthrough also shows the equivalent decimal hours (7.50) for use in payroll systems that require a decimal entry.

Primary result
15 hours and 0 minutes
2 shifts produce 15 hours and 0 minutes after subtracting 60 unpaid break minutes.

- Worked total
- 15 hours and 0 minutes
- Decimal hours
- 15.00 hours
- Overnight shifts
- 1 shift
Step-by-step solution
- 1.Read each completed row as a clock-in time, a clock-out time, and an unpaid break deduction.
- 2.Treat rows whose clock-out time is earlier than clock-in as overnight shifts, then subtract the break minutes from each row's gross duration.
- 3.Add the net row totals to reach 15 hours and 0 minutes, which is 15.00 hours in decimal form.
Walkthrough
Visual walkthrough
Clock-in and clock-out math works best when each shift is validated on its own before anything is summed.
01
Count the completed shifts
2 shifts
Only rows with both a clock-in and clock-out time contribute to the result.
02
Subtract unpaid breaks
960 gross minutes - 60 break minutes
Every row's unpaid break is removed from that row before the shifts are combined.
03
Read the net worked time
15 hours and 0 minutes
The final net total also equals 15.00 hours in decimal form.
